Yellow-throated Toucan

Yellow-throated Toucan

The other iconic bird of the region aside from the Scarlet Macaw is the Yellow-throated Toucan. The huge beak is surprisingly light weight, and is used to improve the bird's reach for food to avoid wasting energy moving through the trees. They are omnivorous, eating mainly fruit but will also take insects, small animals and nestling birds. Thankfully, this behavior is NOT seen with the toucan on box of Fruit Loops.
