Having grown up hiking and fishing in the Pacific Northwest, I have always had a connection to the natural world. For many years, this connection found it's expression through birding. After traveling to find birds throughout the US, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Australia, in 2005 we went to Africa. I was going to take a little pocket point-and-shoot digital camera on the trip, but Terri Smith, a friend and serous photographer, talked me into taking a more serious camera.

An African safari will change your life, and for me one of those changes was a love of photography. I loved the birding in Tanzania, but I loved the images I took there just as much. I now travel to find great birds AND great photos. For both pursuits, the fun just never stops.
