Common Black Hawk

Common Black Hawk

True to its name this is a hawk, it is black, and it is common (at least in Costa Rica). Local people call it the Crab Hawk, due to its preference for predating land crabs, along with occasional reptile, amphibian, fish and insects. It will also feed on carrion, which is not always the case for other raptors.
