Northern Harrier

Sammish Flats, Washington State

Harriers are specialists of open grassy and wetland areas. They soar low and slow just over the tops of vegetation, and drop suddenly when they see prey. Note the faint facial disk, similar to many owls, that helps with location of prey by sound.
